高校３年生を対象に小論文の補習が行われています。今年は約６０名の希望があり、二クラスに分かれての補習です。今日は与えられた課題をじっくりと読んでいました。
Students can volunteer for extra lessons over summer vacation. The extra lesson for third grade high schoolers was to write a short essay. Today students are developing a concrete subject and reading up on the subject they choose.

高校テニス部（女子）が埼玉で行われるインターハイ（全国高校総合体育大会）に向けて出発しました。シングルス、ダブルス、団体に出場します。６年ぶりのインターハイです。団体の初戦は８月２日、大分舞鶴高校です。
同じくインターハイで戦う弓道部から予選２０射１0中、競射５射４中で予選通過。(上位３２校通過）30日からトーナメント戦という連絡が入りました。
Today, the girls' tennis team left for the all national "Inter-high" athletic tournament in Saitama. They will participate in singles, doubles and group tennis matches. Their first match will be August 2nd. It has been six years since the Seiai team made it to the national tournament. The Japanese archery team will also go to the tournament.

中学２・３年生の学習合宿最終日です。それぞれ２，３回目なた め、ハードなスケジュールでもゆとりをもって臨めたようです。みんなよく頑張 りました。写真は三上先生の英語の講習です。
Today, second and third grade junior highers had "study camp". This is their last day of camp. It's been a hard schedule, but there has also been some free time. Everyone has done well.

高校女子バレーボール部がインターハイ（全国高等学校総合体育大会）に向けて出発しました。初戦は８月３日（日）、対戦相手は春日部共栄高校です。
Today the girls' volleyball team left for the all national "Inter-high" tournament. Their first game will be on August 3rd.

中学１・３年アドバンスコースの学習合宿がホテル鹿角で始まりま した。１年生は一泊二日、３年生は二泊三日、２年生は明日から一泊二日です。 到着後、早速午前中に二コマの講習を受けました。
Today, 1st and 3rd grade junior high advanced course students are starting "study camp" at Hotel Kazuno. First graders will have camp for two days and one night. Third graders will have camp for three days and two nights. Tomorrow second grade advanced course students will start camp - also for two days and one night. A change of venue can be a good thing.

中学校で学校説明会が行われました。中高一貫教育の意義と具体的 な取り組みを教頭が説明しました。また、聖愛の年間諸行事を写真と共に説明し ました。
Today there was an explanatory meeting for elementary school students who are interested in Seiai Junior High and their parents. The junior high vice-principal explained how current courses would prepare students for high school, college, and their future careers. There were also many photos of everyday life at Seiai in the presentation.

１学期終業式です。東北大会の賞状伝達の後、インターハイへの壮行式が行われました。体操部、弓道部、テニス部、バレー部と全部女子ですが４つの部が参加します。それぞれの部が決意表明をして校長からの激励とSPGのリードでエールを受けました。
Today at the closing ceremony, students who won awards at in local Tohoku tournaments were recognized. This includes gymnastics, Japanese archery, tennis and volleyball. These groups will also compete in the upcoming Inter-high Tournament. Each group spoke as well as the principal spoke about their victories then the cheerleading team lead a cheer for those recognized.

文化の集いステージ発表。７つのホームルーム、SPG、音楽部のハンドベル、軽音楽部、吹奏楽部、３年選択音楽のボディーパーカッション、教員による「津軽手踊り」が発表されました。保護者の方もたくさん見に来てくださいました。
Today was the stage day of the school festival. Seven homerooms as well as SPG (the drill team pictured here), the music club, and even some teachers participated. Many parents and alumni came to see the show as well.

文化の集い一般公開日。暑い一日でかき氷がよく売れていたようです。
Today was the first day of the school festival. It was a hot day, and the students at the snow cone making stand were very busy. They sold out before 1 o'clock.

中学校で５月に行われた写生会の絵が文化の集いに合わせて中央廊下に展示されました。 早速生徒や教師が足を止めて見ていました。美術科の教員が優秀作品を何点か選んでいます。
Today paintings from the junior high art field trip were put up in time to be viewed during the school festival tomorrow. Both students and teachers are already stopping by to view them.

中学校では日専連と協力し、９月までサフィニアを育てています。 “花いっぱい運動”と呼んでいます。今日は夏休みを前に各クラスの担当者が集ま り、休み中の水やり当番などを確認しました。サフィニアは玄関で綺麗に咲いてます。
Junior High students are participating in a special program called "The Flower Movement". So they are currently raising flowers. Today students signed up to come and water the flowers over summer vacation. The flowers are currently brightening the steps near the front door.

調理部は、“文化の集い”で毎年、喫茶店を開いてます。今日はそのためにクッキーを作りました。 他にカップケーキや焼きそば、さつまスティックなどバラエティに富んだメニューを 用意するとのこと。「笑顔と一緒にお待ちしています」と部長が言ってました。
Every year for the school festival, the cooking club has a cafe. In preparation for the festival this Saturday, students made cakes. The menu will also include cupcakes, yakisoba, and other delicious entrees. "We hope to see everyone come. We look forward to seeing their smiling faces," said the club captain.

中学校では英語スピーチコンテストが行われました。課題は、１年が“Alice and Humpty”（アリスとハンプ ティ）、２年が“My Dream”（私の夢）、３年が“Rosa Parks & Martin Luther King”（ローザ・パークスとマーティン・ルーサー・キング、アラバマ州モンゴ メリーでのバスボイコット事件について）。発音、暗唱、態度を評価します。１年・蛸島さん、２年・小山（ひ）さん、３年・北山さんが各学年１位に選ばれました。
Today was the junior high speech contest. First graders recited a section from "Alice and Humpty", second graders a piece titled "My Dream", and third graders a piece titled "Rosa Parks & Martin Luther King Jr." about the Alabama bus boycott. Winning students were chosen based on delivery, pronunciation and presence.

１９日（土）と２１日（月）に文化の集いが行われます。市民会館でのステージ発表は２１日。今日はそのリハーサルが放課後に体育館ステージで行われました。これから練習の追い込みです。
The school festival will be held this Saturday at Seiai and next Monday at the Hirosaki Civic Center. At the Civic Center on Monday, students will perform on stage. Today after school, students are practicing their performances on the stage in the gym.

中学校では明日“英語スピーチコンテスト”が行われます。今日はそ のリハーサルが礼拝堂で行われ、クラス予選を通過した生徒計２４名と司会 者が壇上で練習をしました。発音練習を英語科教諭と何回も練習し、 堂々とスピーチできるようになりました。それでもやはり緊張していたようです。
Tomorrow the junior high will hold their 3rd annual speech contest. This afternoon, the junior high had a "dress rehearsal" in the chapel. These students are the remaining final 24 students. They were chosen by their homerooms. They've practiced to perfection, but still when they get up on stage they can't help being nervous.

今日は月１回の英語礼拝。週の前半なので２階席に中学生が入場しての礼拝です。讃美歌は“Jesus Loves Me! This I Know”日本語でも歌われている古くからある讃美歌です。お話はニック先生。"Nobody is perfect" という題でした。
Today was the monthly English chapel service. The chapel was full with the junior high students in the balcony. We sang "Jesus Loves Me" in English. Mr. Nick spoke on Romans 3:23. His sermon was titled "No One is Perfect".

高校３年看護進学系の生徒が校外授業で「人体の不思議展」（青森県立美術館）へ行きました。将来看護等の学校を目指している生徒にとって、大切な経験だったと思います。英語英会話系の生徒がうらやましがっていたとか。
Today third grade high schoolers who are in the nursing course went to see the exhibit "the Unbelievable Human Body" at the Aomori Art Museum. For these students, seeing the exhibit was an important experience.

中学では、ちょうど今、日本に滞在しているオーストラリアの親子を お迎えして交流の時を持ちました。親子で黒板にオーストラリアの地図を書いた りしてオーストラリアや家族について紹介してくれました。特に中学３年生は海 外語学研修で１０月にオ－ストラリアへ行きます。オーストラリアを知る良い機 会でした。
Today Mrs. Carolyn Abbey from Melbourne, Australia and her son Josh gave a presentation to junior high students about Australia. This is perfect timing as the 3rd graders will be going to Australia in October. Mrs. Abbey was an exchange student at nearby Kuroishi Shogyo High School, and later one of the first JET program members Her host family sister is the mother of one of our first grade junior highers. We're gracious to them for sharing this opportunity with us.

第90回夏の甲子園予選開会式。堂々とした行進でした。今年も精一杯準備をして臨んでいます。初戦は１４日です。
Today was the opening ceremony for the national summer baseball tournament. Here are our boys taking part in the grand march. Their first match is on Monday. We know they'll be giving it everything they've got.

高校２年生の調理実習です。餃子と春雨サラダを作りました。キャベツの千切りが上手くいかなかったり、餃子の皮から中味がはみ出たりと、思うようにいかないこともありましたが、楽しく作れました。
Today second grade students had cooking lab. They made gyoza and "spring salad". The portions were big and nutritious. The students enjoyed making their own meals.

今日の礼拝は放送で「出会いの時間」担当は福士先生。２人の詩人、工藤直子とマリー・ローランサンを紹介してくれました。
Today's morning chapel was "encounters". Ms. Fukushi, a Japanese Literature teacher, introduced students to two poets - Naoko Kudou and Marie Laurencin.

試験の終わった今日は音楽教室。寺内タケシとブルージーンズのスクールコンサート。生徒たちも昔若かった教師たちも十分に楽しめました。こだわりの音質とたくさんの勇気づけられるメッセージも素晴らしいものでした。
Today was a special music day. Mr. Takeshi Terauchi (a famous electric guitar player and maker) and his band came to play music for the students and show them a sampling of the latest keyboard and electric guitar / bass technology. They played both old and new pop songs that everyone could enjoy.

中高共、期末テスト最終日です。校庭の柿の木に実がなりました。まだ枯れた花を付けているものもあります。
Today is the last day of final tests. Here is the persimmon tree in the front parking lot, the fruits are starting to appear and the dead flowers are falling.

連日晴れの日が続いています。中学の期末テストも始まりました。岩木山の頂上に夏らしい雲がありました。
Today the junior high also started their final tests. The days have been sunny and warm recently. Here is a picture of our local Mt. Iwaki with summer clouds hanging around the summit.

高校期末試験１日目。中学校は普通授業です。図書館脇の梅の木に実がたくさん。収穫はもう少し待った方がいいでしょう。
This is the first day of final tests for high school students, but junior high finals start tomorrow. There are plums on the plum tree near the library, but it will still be a while until they are ripe enough to eat.
